Compaction wheels increase the versatility of your
excavator.
We have two types of compactors available – open
wheel disc and drum roller type.
The drum type compaction roller is more appropriate
to use on large flat compaction areas rather than
trenching because the drum design must have its
frame on each side if the drum. This type of
compaction roller can only compact to within 50mm of
the side walls of the trench, post, etc. Cleaning of
the drum roller is a little easier than the open
wheel type.
The disc type is suitable for trenches as it offers
compaction right up to the sides of the trench.
Design research has shown that because of the open
wheel design, this type of compaction wheel
penetrates into the substrate further. Cleaning of
the wheel type Compactor is a little more time
consuming, although we have minimized the open wheel
areas to reduce the clogging in clay type soils.
Our compaction wheels are manufactured from Bisalloy
which is 3.1 times stronger and abrasion resistant
than mild steel.
Whether you choose the open wheel or drum roller
Compaction wheel, design of the pads and the
bearings used plays a very important role in
increasing compaction performance. Square pads will
not compact as much as tapered pads. The tapered
pads tend to lift out of sticky materials such as
wet clay easier than square pads, so ensure better
compaction. If the bearings in the wheel or roller
operate smoothly and easily, compaction will always
be greater than intermittent jerky movements of
wheels that jam and stick.
Both disc and drum type eiengineering
compaction wheels are available in various widths
and interchangeable heads are available to suit
different excavators.
All of our bushes and rollers are of high tensile
steel with fully sealed bushes to ensure smooth
operation at all times.
